"I met Coach Pittman at our local community center, where he taught an early morning MMA/Boxing class.  It became clear to me in a matter of minutes that his class had little to do with previous classes I had attended there.  He was a stickler for technique.  He kept our class moving.  We worked with other students rather than alone on the bags.  I loved it.

But with class there only twice a week, I was not progressing.  He suggested I add another class at his gym - 503 West Coast Jiu Jitsu.  Crazy!  I loved it.  At age 54 with no prior boxing experience, I showed up out of shape, with weak joints, failing balance and a bum foot.  I was wary of not having a beginner class to slide into, and yet was completely hooked.

Coach Pittman made sure I learned properly from the beginning.  I was paired in class with other students who always make me feel comfortable and welcome - no matter what our height, weight, age or strength differences (OK, I am small!).

I tried out the Muay Thai classes - amazing!  I am now attending classes four times a week.  My joints have strengthened along with muscle tone, balance and coordination – I have lost weight.  Flabby fat has been replaced with muscles.  I am building stamina.  My footwork is improving.  I sleep well.  Having a non-scripted work out woke up my brain.  I am no longer sliding backwards into middle age.  I am strong.

I love my coaches.  They teach from experience - no-nonsense classes that are well balanced and unpredictable.

I love the hard work of all the students (my energy comes from them some classes) and I am grateful for the atmosphere that Coach Pittman has created that keeps it all light, yet keeps it tough.

The gym is not close to my home.  There are many gyms nearby, but I will not entertain the idea of joining them.  I drive from North Portland to Clackamas for good reason!
