Gustavo Bessa
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu / Wrestling
Coach Bessa specializes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling. He has been training in grappling for six years and has placed in numerous tournaments in high school, including state.
He has garnered the Split Decision 145 lbs. Championship belt, as well as a Lower Weight Grand Prix Championship. He placed 2nd in the No-Gi Intermediate Division at the 2010 Oregon Open, 3rd in the Intermediate Division of the 2011 Sub League Tournament, 4th in the Absolute Division of the 2012 Split-Jitsu Tournament and 2nd in the 2012 503 West Coast Jiu Jitsu Tournament. He holds a Blue Belt under Diego Gamonal, who was the 2010 Pan American BJJ Champion.
Coach Bessa got into coaching because, "I enjoy making others better; it makes me better. The key to anything is repetition and when I am coaching I have to repeat everything many times for people to learn. I found this is a great way for me to improve my own game."
When asked what he likes best about coaching he said, "I am not one to brag, but my students seem like they are learning, so the fact that I am making people better is good enough for me."
